Live entertainment will be provided by Veronika Barnes. She comes from a European immigrant family and, thanks to the kindness of sponsoring relatives, arrived in Cleveland, Ohio in 1960. Growing up, she was exposed to people of various ethnic backgrounds, along with their customs, foods, and —of course—music! She was always musically inclined and studied piano for a few years in her youth and sang in school, church, and community choirs over the years.
She and her family had a tradition of watching The Lawrence Welk Show every Saturday night – as many here probably did as well! The incredibly talented Myron Floren had a lasting impact on her, and at age 30, Veronika first picked up a small Hohner accordion and began noodling around on it, with lessons soon to follow. It wasn’t long before she joined a German band (in Boise, Idaho), and later began doing solo programs when she moved to Washington State, then Phoenix, Arizona, and now, in New Mexico.
